| These Flops Are a Total Hit! - 06 / 17 / 2009
I have to tell you about the PERFECT summer accessory to go with your I EXCLAIM! cap! I am seriously not kidding when I tell you I have discovered THE perfect flip flop. They are called FLOPS, and you can check them out at www.planetflops.com. FLOPS were developed by a Beverly Hills podiatrist and are made from natural Brazilian rubber. They’re like summer foot nirvana! Only they’re a little bit better than nirvana because they come in a rainbow of colors.

Flashback to a few weeks ago. I was playing out in the yard with my son wearing a new-ish pair of a popular brand of Brazilian flip flops. I gotta say, they may have been popular and inexpensive but they weren’t all that comfortable. The straps are that same stiff rubber that reminds me of the flops I wore when I was a little girl. Sure enough, when we came inside I had a blister on the top of my foot from the strap.
A few days later, my first pair of FLOPS arrived from Planet Flops. I really don’t think I’ve ever had such a comfy flip flop! The natural rubber is super soft, so it molds great to the foot. It is also very flexible, so there is none of that new-flop stiffness. You know how some flip flops will occasionally slide out from under you across the floor? These have a nice grippyness, but they don’t feel sticky. And the straps? They’re awesome! They actually have a little stretchiness to them, so you don’t have to worry about blister-causing friction.
The best thing about FLOPS is that they are eco-friendly. Most flip flops are made from synthetic rubber, which is manufactured from nonsustainable petroleum products. At the end of its life, synthetic rubber is neither biodegradable nor compostable. FLOPS are made from natural rubber, which is harvested in a sustainable manner by tapping into the bark of the rubber tree and collecting the sap. The process does not harm the tree.
The second best thing about these flops: the price. At $24 per pair, they’re budget friendly. And if you order four pairs, Planet Flops covers the shipping. So call a couple friends and order together. The women’s flops are sized 5/6, 7/8, and 9/10. These sizes seem to run pretty true. I normally wear a size 9 or 9 ½, and the 9/10 fits perfectly. A bit of advice: I would seriously recommend checking out the size chart if you want to order a pair of the men’s flops. My husband is a size 10. I ordered him a men’s 9/10, and it was exactly the same size as my women’s 9/10. Needless to say, they didn’t fit him. But they fit me!!!
I’ve heard that some people who have tattoos are barely done getting one tattoo before they start thinking about their next one. That’s how I am with FLOPS. So far I’ve bought six pairs: two for me, one for my husband (mine now too!), one for Caitlin, and two for gifts. Caitlin has been wearing hers for a week now, and she says that they are “the happiest thing that has ever happened” to her feet. I can’t wait to hear what y’all think!
